Managing Interfaces
Network devices are attached to transmission links through interfaces: local area
network interfaces (Ethernet connections), wide area network interfaces,
asynchronous transfer mode interfaces, and so forth.
In the PATROL DashBoard navigation tree, interfaces reside under routers, forming
an interface subtree. Interfaces include asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and
Frame Relay (FR) interfaces, as well as virtual interfaces.
About Frame Relay DLCI Interfaces
PATROL DashBoard management of Frame Relay includes the management of their
data link connection identifiers (DLCIs), the identifiers of logical links in the Frame
Relay technology. Only the DLCIs associated with physical interfaces are represented
by PATROL DashBoard. The objects that model the DLCIs are subordinate in the
navigation tree to the interfaces on which they are declared.
PATROL DashBoard discovers Motorola Frame Relay routers and DLCI interfaces on
a private MIB basis.
WARNING
This discovery is carried out on all the devices that integrate the MIB RFC 1315
relating to Frame Relay. A DLCI discovery procedure may fail if the device does not
implement or does not recognize this MIB.
