In order for the program to determine the number of holes
which are admissible for the beam, the parameters SOPEN
and EOPEN need to be assigned. In the figure above, there
is a term shown as S. This value is part of the section
tables supplied with STAAD.Pro, so it retrieves that value
from there. It then computes the number of holes, and the
remainder of the terms shown in the above diagram.

SOPEN and EOPEN (see the parameter table shown
earlier) have to be at least 1.5e + b, with “e” and “b” as
shown in the earlier figure. If the user inputs a value less
than these minima, the minimum values are used.
