Figure 19-1 shows IP address assignment and network device connection.
Secondary IP address configuration example
Configure RIPv1. You can see the routes of 172.16.2.0/24 on router C and the
routes of 172.16.1.0/24 on router D.
Configuration of the Routers:
RIPv1 does not support classless-based routes. This means masks are not
carried with routing advertisement. 172.16.1.0/24 and 172.16.2.0/24 that belong
to the same netowrk are separated by the Class C network 192.168.12.0/2.
Generally, router C and router D cannot routes from each other. According to
one feature of RIP, the mask of the route to be received should be set to the
same value as that of the interface network if the route and the interface
network belong to the same network. By configuring routers A and B, you can
build a secondary netowrk 172.16.3.0/24 on the network 192.168.12.0/24 to link
